It’s hard to believe, but it’s been 10 years since Alan Knuckman and I first launched “Top That Trade” back on the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME). The energy in the trading pits was electric, and as friends “on” and “off” screen we always found ways to challenge each other.
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned over these years is the importance of continuously challenging yourself as an investor. Markets are always evolving, and so should your strategies. Having a solid approach and a method to your trading is crucial, but it’s equally important to keep refining that approach. Some methods are tried and true, and they work because they’re backed by empirical evidence. If you’ve developed a process that is well-founded, stick to it—but don’t be afraid to adapt when necessary.
Remember, the key to successful trading is not guessing. It’s about following a well-thought-out plan and sticking with it, even when the market gets tough. If you’ve done your homework and have the data to back up your decisions, trust yourself and make that trade.
